Challenger is a high school
completion program open to 16 through 21 year old students
who reside in Osceola County, who are over-age for grade level and behind in credits.
Ideal students are in their final year of high school.
Classes are assigned to ensure each students meets state
graduation requirements. Courses are designed so that
students can work individually with certified teacher
assistance. Technology-based individualized learning
opportunities are included in each course. Plato/Impact
labs are also available. Graduating students are
awarded a regular high school diploma from one of the
district's seven high schools.
Students have the option of attending TECO for a half day to
obtain vocational skills before graduating from high school.
Interested students will be taking a placement test for
eligibility.
Challenger students attend on a mini-semester schedule
earning credit every 22-24 days. Students have one
course in the morning period and a different course in the
afternoon period. Most students prefer this
non-traditional scheduling of only focusing on two courses
at a time. The school day is 7:40 am until 2:00 pm,
Monday through Friday based on the district-wide calendar.
Admissions
New students are accepted at
the start of each mini-semester. Students and parents
must

Accepted students will
register on a specific day prior to the start of a
new mini-semester. This information will be
given out during the orientation meeting.
Parents and students would bring their proof of
residency at this time and the withdrawal form from
the high school.
Counseling Schedule
Once school begins, new students will
meet with the Guidance Counselor for credit checks and to
answer any questions the student may have regarding school.
The Guidance Counselor keeps close track of Challenger
students so they are aware of graduation requirements.
Insurance
Parents of students in Challenger can
purchase a separate accident insurance policy for their
students. Enrollment forms are offered at the
beginning of each school year.
The cost of the coverage is paid by the
parent/student.
Additional Costs
Each student who drives and parks a
car on campus is required to purchase a parking permit for
$10.00 (cash only). Other than the parking permit fee,
there are no other additional costs to Challenger students.
