ESL

English as a Second Language (ESL) is designed for adults whose first language is not English and who need to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Most students attend classes to learn survival skills, personal enrichment/functional literacy skills, pre-vocational skills or citizenship. Progressive levels of grammar structure, reading, writing, listening, speaking and living skills are taught to help the non-English speaker adjust to American life and prepare the student to enter the job market or continue his/her education.  New students will be evaluated by the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) test - listening and reading - in order to determine proper educational placement in classes.

Citizenship: This class prepares applicants to pass the examination to become naturalized citizens of the United States. The class includes study of American history, the Constitution and federal, state and local governments, and cultural studies. Students will participate in oral discussions, learn about the application process and improve written language skills. Students will be assisted toward reaching their goal of U.S. Citizenship.
